Tomáš Karpíšek — double-bass

After studying double bass at the Pilsen Conservatory with Martin Koukolík, he continued his studies in Prague with MgA. Petr Ries and at HAMU in the class of Professor Jiří Hudec. He finished his studies with a master's degree at the HfM Freiburg im Breisgau under Bozo Paradzik. After graduation, he was engaged in Vienna, where he performed for almost two years at the Vienna State Opera and was a regular guest with the Vienna Philharmonic.

In 2019, he attended the Carl Flesch Akademie's masterclasses in Baden-Baden with Matthew McDonald (solo double bassist of the Berlin Philharmonic), where he was awarded the Preis des Fördervereins der Carl Flesch Akademie e. V. As a soloist, he performed with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic. He regularly appears in solo recitals.

In addition to the double bass, he is also a composer. He studied composition at the Pilsen Conservatory in the class of Professor Mgr. et MgA. Jiří Bezděk, Ph.D. and attended composition seminars in Great Britain and Germany. For his Sonata for flute and piano he won the 3rd prize in the International Composition Competition Generation 2010. He has a long-standing collaboration with the British music publisher Recital Music, which has already published his two suites for double bass solo and commissioned other compositions from him. His compositions have been premiered by the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra and performed at festivals such as Days of Contemporary Music, Smetana Days, Max Reger Tage.
